Fiscal Fitness! A course for
families to learn money methods together! |
|
We hope you can use this site to
find ideas and methods to help raise your teens to be better money
managers. Please feel free to explore a little. You can download sample
"contracts" that can be the basis for your own relationship to your
kids. You can see what others have said about the book. You can even
leave your favorite comment about your teens behavior around money to
share with others. I hope you enjoy this book. More importantly, I want
you to tell every friend you have with teens to read this book and teach
their kids about personal finance. Your money is "where your mouth is".
Money is all about "family values" in the best meaning of those terms.
It's about what really matters, and how you value it. Teaching those
values is key to strong families.
This book was
first published as a independent project for local schools and churches
under the title, "Capitate Your Kids". The idea caught on and Viking Press
was engaged as a partner to aid in wider distribution. Their first edition
in hard cover was called "Sink or Swim" in order to differentiate if from
the original soft cover. The two books are identical! We wanted
to reach more kids and after the book was published in 4 other countries, we
changed the name back to "Capitate Your Kids".
What does
Capitate mean? In health care, a capitated contract is one in which a fixed
cost is applied to a fixed desired behavior. The person receiving the money
gets the left over income from the contract if they are able to spend less
than the agreed upon amount. Applied to your kids, you give your kids a
fixed sum ( a budget) developed in the culture of your family for them to
take care of their own needs. You are teaching them to be responsible for
themselves. You are putting a head back on their shoulders!
